DC Motors

Transmotec sells brush commutated dc motors and with perhaps the largest range in the world of its types. Our dc motors are built from tin can economic versions up to full-housed ball bearing fine arts motors also available with feedback encoders. Transmotec dc motors have as standard integral electric noise filters.

A brush type DC motor is built around a so-called stator and rotor. The iron core rotor has a stacked metal sheet lamination that carry several copper wire winding poles. The windings are connected to a circular multi segment copper contact point called commutator. The commutator is connected to a carbon brush pair that are respectively connected to the motors plus and minus terminals. The stator consist of normally two spherical permanent magnets that are attached in a radial position to the rotor and attached inside an outer housing of the motor. When a voltage is applied to the electric terminals a current will pass through the winding and an electrical magnet field will be generated between the coils and the permanent magnets. The magnetic field will result in a rotational force that will turn the rotor. When the rotor is rotating the commutator will act as an rotating switch and connect the windings to the brushes creating a synchronously and continuous rotation. The applied voltage will have a directly proportional impact on the motors speed, and the current threw the motor is directly proportional to the torque. DC motors can be applied to an over voltage to achieve higher speed and torque but the rotor coil should not reach the melting point of the rotor wire insulation.

We welcome to tailor or customize your dc motors to meet the requirements specified in your purchase order.
